The Four Flames Decluttering Personalities

Beacon

I don't want to mess this up!

Meet Olivia.

She loves systems. She wants her home to feel organized, functional, and perfect. But right now it doesn’t feel that way, and when it comes to decluttering, she hesitates.

What if she regrets getting rid of something? What if she doesn’t do it the best way? If she can’t do it perfectly, she won’t start. The clutter grows, and so does her frustration.

Does the fear of making the wrong choice stop you from decluttering at all? If so, you might be a Beacon, too.

Your Decluttering Challenges

You second-guess yourself, making it hard to let go of anything.
If you can’t do it perfectly, it feels pointless to start at all.
You get stuck researching the “best” way to declutter instead of actually doing it.

How to Stop Overthinking & Start Decluttering

The decision ladder

Beacons get stuck in perfectionism. If they can’t declutter “the absolute best way,” they won’t do it at all, afraid of making mistakes or having to do it over. The Decision Ladder gives you a simple way to practice decluttering decisions—starting small and building confidence with each step!

✓ How to Do It:

  1. Select a small space (a drawer, one shelf, a small cabinet) and pick up the first item that catches your attention.
  2. If the item is broken, expired, or useless, discard it (trash or recycling).
  3. If it’s not broken, expired, or useless, do a gut-check. If your first thought is “I don’t need this” or “I don’t even like this,” out it goes!
  4. Now that you’ve practiced on one item, set a 2-minute timer and make as many low-stakes decisions as possible. No pressure—just momentum.
  5. When the timer goes off, scan the space. Does everything here support the home and life I want now? If not, remove it with confidence.
  6. Take out the trash/donations and celebrate your progress!

Why This Is Unique:

Most decluttering advice starts with “just toss trash” (and that’s good advice!), but Beacons need more than that—Beacons need structure. The Decision Ladder builds trust in your own choices—so that decluttering feels safe, not stressful.
